Chick-Fil-A- “The Spark”
This ad is a bit different from Chick-Fil-A’s usual content but still extremely well done. Out of context, it comes off more like a Pixar short than a commercial, but the message is very sweet and wholesome.
The USPS- “Home”
The USPS holiday ad, simply titled “Home” is by far one of the most moving ads to come out this year. The ad takes us on a journey from the sorting center, to the loading dock, through rain and snow, to front doorsteps. While it’s not a particularly intricate, it still becomes quite emotional. The mixture of the soft “I’ll be Home for Christmas” cover and the endline “We go the distance to bring you closer” tug at the viewers heart strings. The knowledge of the hardships the USPS has faced this year only adds to the emotional stop meant to celebrate the all work the postal workers do.
Honey Baked Ham- “Here’s to Tradition”
Honey Baked Ham took a different route than most holiday ads. They chose to incorporate several home videos into one ad with a voice over and a sweet message. It’s simple compared to some other ads we’ll see this season but in a good way. It’s showing genuine families enjoying the holidays with their Honey Baked hams as opposed to a picturesque staged gathering.
Miller Lite- “Farewell, work holiday parties”
Miller Lite’s holiday ad takes us on a journey through a terrible office holiday party. Its shot style is reminiscent of the mannequin challenge many took part in back in 2016. This is another ad that doesn’t have dialogue and instead features title cards reading “one good thing to come out of 2020?” “the end of work holiday parties.
