Local Restaurateur and St. Pete Native Pete Boland has Officially Filed and Entered the Race for Mayor of St. Petersburg, Florida

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (June 3, 2021) — Pete Boland, 37, gained notoriety as an outspoken leader of the St. Pete business community before the opening of his flagship restaurant, The Galley, in 2016. His restaurants were featured in national news in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic as a leading voice bringing attention to the challenges of business owners, workers, and patrons. Notably, Boland and colleagues also led efforts to feed workers and families and retained his organization’s 50+ jobs throughout 2020 and 2021.

Boland, a registered Republican, born and raised in St. Pete, is proud to call himself a moderate, and is promoting a policy agenda he calls “St. Pete First.” Among top priorities for the City, he is focusing on lower taxes, increased government accountability, building more houses, modernizing the police, improving public schools, and serving as a champion of small business and the local hospitality industry (a pillar of the St. Pete economy).

Pete Boland talks openly about “the comeback story” of his life. “It’s an American story – I made mistakes as a youth, but I was given second chances, I was humbled, I put in a lot of hard work, received lots of help along the way, and developed many long relationships throughout the City. St. Pete has always been so good to me, I want to give back for the many ways the people here have given to me.”

Boland resides near his original homestead in Shore Acres with his girlfriend Jessica and her three children. Boland says partisan politics has damaged the City’s progress and wants to bring innovative, common sense solutions to every layer of City Government – “Politics as usual is not progress.”

Boland aims to bring a “breath of fresh air” into the conversation, backed by deep roots throughout the community and “a passionate love for St Pete.”
